Over the Winter and into Spring, you may notice that your hibiscus and ixora are developing yellow leaves and/or dropping their leaves. These are two of the most widely planted decorative shrubs in our area, are most susceptible to temperature variances.
The first symptoms are the leaves turning yellow and falling off, and there is nothing that can be done to correct this problem. Chances are, the plants are not damaged to the point of no return, so the leaves will come back within time, but each subsequent cold snap will create this same problem.
If you know in advance of a very cold night coming, you can cover your plants to help protect them. Remember not to use plastic – a better choice is cloth or sheets.
